The owners of SCIENCE are Thomas, Sammich (Sam H.), and Beta. Beta was the original financial backer and is the accountant for the company. Although the company is a "for profit" company, all profits from the SNAFU Convention are put back into the convention itself. The company has no employees.

The owners are not paid, although equity is allocated to each partner. In 2018, Nathan leaving and taking his equity crippled the company (and therefore the con) bank account. As a result, the remaining partners put in place an agreement that no owner may take out of the company more than 5% annually over the actual money they put into it, even if they leave (any remaining equity balance becomes a note payable over time).
Procedures
Renewing the City Business License

Current Partnership
Current partnership owner percentage is Beta 65.85%, Thomas 29.36%, Sammich 4.79%.

Partnership Changes
* The partnership started as Nathan, Beta, and Eddie.
* Eddie left early on (2011?). No equity had been allocated to Eddie so there was no pay out.
* Thomas bought into the company as a 20% partner in 2015, changing ownership to 40% for each other partner.
* Nathan was a partner from 2010 through early 2018. The company paid him his entire equity balance.
* Sammich bought into the company in 2018.

TJSomething: Added extra explanation in intro.

Every year, we have a spreadsheet in Google Docs to help us make sure that we're on target for getting enough rooms to meet our minimums and reconcile hotel-provided delegate lists with digital records provided by hotel reservation services.

We need to perform this reconciliation because the GSR allows for people to book online or by phone. BACON has a system built in that allows people who book online through the links we provide to automatically get VIP status. We can also login to the GSR's online booking system, Passkey, to pull a list of all the people who booked through their online system, even if they did not go through our links. However, Passkey cannot give us a list of people who booked by phone. For this, we need the "delegate list": a complete list of all of people who book rooms and then we need to reconcile it against the records from Passkey.
Creating the Spreadsheet for a New Year
#As the SCIENCE records Google account, copy last year's sheet and share with the same people
#On the Prices sheet, update the 100% room-night target and the price schedule
#On the Previous Year Comparison sheet, archive the old year:
##Move the chart out of your way so you can see columns A-G
##Select columns B-D, right-click the column header, and select "Insert 3 right"
## Select columns B-D and press Ctrl+C. Select cell E1 and press Ctrl-V, then click the paste popup and choose "values only". Do the same thing again but choose "format only". This gives you a copy of the previous year with static values instead of the formulas.
##Update the header in cells B1 and D3 to the current year
##Set the last cell in column B to the date of the Wednesday before con this year, then fill upwards with earlier dates
##Move the chart back to the top left
##Double-click the chart and add G3:G203 to the data range list between D and J
#On the Master Account sheet, delete all the data - leave the headers and formulas (gray cells)
# On the Passkey sheet, delete all the data - leave the headers and formulas (gray cells)
#On the Phone sheet, delete all the data - leave the headers and formulas (gray cells)
# On the GSR sheet, delete all the data - leave the headers and formulas (gray cells)
#On the BACON sheet, delete all the data - leave the headers
# On the Reconcile sheet, delete the confirmation numbers in columns A and B
# Import and reconcile Passkey, so that's up to date.
# Take the spreadsheet they give us and copy it into the GSR worksheet. It will not necessarily match the columns, so just try to make them match.

GBC HeatSeal H110
These are little powerhorses we bought in our first year. They jam easily if you aren't paying attention and decide to put two badges through them, but they can also be taken apart and put back together. They cost about $60 new, but are now around $10-20 around the internet because there are newer models out there. They do not get as hot as some of our other larger laminating machines, but they also have not died on us yet. Once they are really hot and ready to go, they take about two passes on a 10m pouch, and 1-2 on a 7m pouch to laminate well.

Do not use a laminating sleeve in this machine!
Causes of Machine Jamming
*Using a laminating sleeve (sometimes).
*Rushing and inserting a new badge in the machine when the previous one isn't out yet.
*Forgetting that you put a badge in the machine and inserting a new one.
*Not pushing the badge in far enough for the machine to catch it, and then inserting another badge.
Seriously, be careful and pay attention. Jamming a machine will require someone to take the machine apart to fix AND it ruins both badges in the machine. A jammed machine wastes a lot of valuable time.

General Info
This page needs pictures of our machines, costs, etc.

There needs to be a complete procedure for how to take apart and put together the machines, as well as how to laminate. Etc.

Caution
*Be careful with the machines. Be careful not to jam the machine because a jammed machine must be taken apart to be usable again for reg.
*Make sure that the prelaminated edge of the pouch goes in to the machine first. Not putting the correct edge forward could cause the pouch not to laminate correctly, or worse, the pouch to come apart and jam the machine. Similarly, make sure the sleeve fold goes in first when using a pouch.
*BADGES ARE HOT when they come out of the machines. Be careful not to hurt yourself. The burns have never been serious, but they hurt for a few moments so just be careful.

To Sleeve or Not to Sleeve
A laminating sleeve is a little folded over piece of shiny card stock. It protects the machine from glue and ensures that the machine parts aren't touching the lamination materials directly. Some machines need them, some machines do not.

Here's the basics of how to tell if you need a sleeve:
*Large machines – sleeves
*Small machines (GBC HeatSeal H110) – NO sleeves

Any large laminating machines must have a sleeves when laminating the badge. All small machines (GBC HeatSeal H110) must not have a sleeves when laminating. The pouches come with the laminating sleeves and if all of them are damaged or lost, a folded over piece of paper will suffice.

Apache
It needs to run at 350 degrees F for 10 mil pouches. For the thick card stock badges, run it through, flip it, and run it through again.

TJSomething: heard animals -> herd animals

The Four Things You Must Always Do
There are four hard rules you need to follow as part of customer service. These four items are the most basic and important building blocks of an excellent customer service experience.

# Make eye contact. Practice it. Eye contact is magic. It tells the other person that you're paying attention to them and it will make them pay attention to you. It keeps them engaged with you.
# Smile. Smiles are contagious. When a person is smiled at, they are likely to smile back. When they smile, they are actually going to feel happier. It's that simple.
# Greet. A simple and friendly "good morning!" goes a long way. It shows that you're interested and initiates the conversation.
# Say "thank you." Practice it. Say thank you for everything. People will feel better about your interaction and not know why.

These very simple things are the hardest things to learn when you're new to customer service. With practice and time, it becomes much easier. It's very easy to get through most customer service situations if you start there.

Don't forget to speak clearly and confidently! If you can't be heard you can't help anyone.

Body Language
Your body language is important. Humans are herd animals and we naturally mirror those around us. Try to keep open and inviting body language. That will open them up as well. Never cross your arms. Don't fidget with keys or coins in your pocket. Don't have your hands in your pockets.

NEVER be staring at your phone because they'll never approach you. As long as you aren't engaged with a customer, glancing at your phone occasionally is fine if you're keeping up with staff chat or communicating with other staff. But don't be engrossed with your phone. If you've been on your phone for more than a minute or so, you need to put it down and look around you.

We allow staff to sit, but when you can, be standing. You're more engaging and welcoming if you're standing. If you're sitting, sit at attention. Be on the lookout for people to approach you. Even if you're stationed in one place, if you make eye contact, they will come to you.

Don't Leave It At "I Don't Know"
If you are asked a question you can't answer, you must find out the answer. Always make sure they get their answer either from you or from another staff member.

Find Out
* Ask them to hold on a second and you'll find out.
* Find out.
* Give them the answer.

Pass them to someone who can help
* Ask them to follow you to someone who can help them.
* Give them to the staffer who can help, and close with "this is X, they will take care of you." You can not leave until you excuse yourself by telling them that the other person will answer their question or take care of them, or something along those lines.

Escort When Possible
If a person asks where something is and you have the ability to escort them, escort them. It makes a huge difference in their experience. If you can't escort them, pull out your map when you give directions, don't just gesture in a general direction.

And this is a silly Disneyland trick, but don't point. When you gesture a direction, use an open hand. Most won't notice, but in some cultures pointing is rude. It's safer not to. I can't say I don't mess that one up, but I do make an effort when I can.

Avoid or Respect Pronouns
If you know a person's pronouns, use them. Otherwise, avoid pronouns. We have many trans people in our attendees and staff. Although most will simply correct you, there are a few who will take serious offense. Don't risk it. We want our trans attendees and staff to feel welcome and respected, too.

No Irony or Sarcasm
Please remember that we have a lot of staff and attendees on the autism spectrum who might not pick up on your body language or tone and could miss your joke entirely and take your words literally. Something simple and obvious to you could be very upsetting to someone else.

* Never act like you're upset at someone for not showing their badge.
* Never tease anyone about needing their badge.
* Never make an ironic or sarcastic joke where you say one thing and mean another.

Many people won't pick up on your intentions and take your words at exactly face value.
Think about what message you are portraying and if someone missed the humor, would they be upset.

Additionally, don't do it with your friends while you are on duty. You never know who may witness it and interpret it the wrong way. We want all of our attendees to have a great time, so please don't try to be funny.

Escalate! Escalate! Escalate!
If you have a situation you can't handle, escalate. Unless it is expressly your responsibility to handle unhappy attendees (and it's probably not), escalate. Move them up the chain until someone can help them.

First, give them to your department head. If the department head can't help, they'll get the floor managers involved. From there it may move up to a chair. Do not hesitate to escalate!

Keep Personal Feelings Out Of It
You should be able to give a great customer service experience to your worst enemy using the above guidelines. Follow them no matter what your personal feelings about a person or group of people are.

It doesn't matter if you love or hate someone, you're there to help them so they can go have a great con. If you can't help someone, pass them on to someone who can. If they're being difficult, escalate them up the chain. But don't ever be rude or dismissive to anyone, even and especially if you don't like them or they don't like you.

We all have terrible customers sometimes, but that doesn't mean you can't provide great customer service.

Social Media Policies
Please note that some of these policies use "should" and some use "must." Anything using "should" can be stretched if there is good reason.

General Post Creation Policies
* Above all else, content must be interesting for our audience (attendees)
* Twitter length should be no more than 120 characters
* Facebook length should be no more than 140 characters max
* Blog post length should be between 600 and 1500 words (less is more)
* Images increase engagement so if possible, an image should be included in the post
* Videos have higher engagement than pictures so a short video should be included if possible.
* Shorter is better for videos because the Internet has a short attention span. Videos should be kept under 1:30. Unless it's a tutorial or a streaming video, all videos should not be more than 3 minutes.
* Any videos or images included in a post must be of good quality. We will not post images or video where you can't tell what's going on.
* Links or shares should include a short message from us.
* Before we advertise for any other event the convention should already be in contact with that event and cross-promoting.
* All posts must be positive. Trash-talking about another event, product, or person makes us look bad.

General Posting Policies
* All posts must be managed though our Social Media department.
* On platforms that create a link preview (e.g. Facebook), the URL must always be removed from the post.
* All posts should have perfect spelling and grammar, but the only exceptions are appropriate Internet-slang or memes. Social Media must fix any posts that aren't perfect before posting.
* Social media must edit posts _as needed_ to increase potential engagement across the different platforms.

Departmental Social Media Posts Policies
* Departments are to generate their content and announcements as soon as possible so we can schedule the posts over the coming year.
* Each recurring post should be changed so that it is unique to encourage maximum engagement. Social Media can do that but it is best if the department does it before submitting posts.
* Submitted content may take more than a week to go live. If a post must go live sooner, include a "post by" date when submitting content.

Content Procedures
Content Submission Procedure
# Using the policies above, write or curate the best content you can. Even curated content should include a short blurb, but if you're not a good writer it's okay to rely on the Social Media department to improve your post.
# Email your content to sm [at] snafucon.com
# You may want to @tasha and @susana in HipChat to remind or alert them that they have an email waiting for them.

Staff Content Posting Procedure
Social Media may create or curate own content. This is how to handle content from staff outside the social media department.

# Receive content in RT
# Mark the RT ticket as owned by you and 'open' to indicate you are handling it
# Review post for appropriateness, spelling, and grammar
# If post is curated content, review the link closely for appropriateness
# If you believe the post is good to go and you are authorized to do so, schedule it for posting
# If you want help editing the post, or you are not authorized to post directly, post the content in the marketing room for workshopping.
# All Marketing staff are to assist in workshopping to the best of their ability (if you have no ability, you don't need to help).
# Once the post is approved by Marketing, schedule the post, or have an authorized individual schedule the post.

SM Content Posting Procedure
This is the procedure for posting content created by social media.

If you feel it is ready to go and you are authorized to post without workshopping, and the content isn't time-sensitive:
# If you are authorized to do so, schedule the post at least 2 days from today's date.
# Post the content in the marketing room and indicate the date that it will go live.

If you need to work shop the post:
# Post the content in the Marketing room. Follow the steps outlined in "Staff Content Posting Procedure" for workshopping and posting the content.

If the post is time sensitive and you are authorized to post without workshopping: post or schedule it

If the post is time sensitive and you are not authorized to post without workshopping: pester the people in the Marketing room who are authorized to post it, to post or schedule it.

Content Ideas
Short Content (Twitter/Facebook)
Most short content should be 120-140 characters.
* Quick cosplay, art, prop, or gaming tip.
* Links to other interesting or useful articles our attendees would like.
* Links to other interesting or useful videos our attendees would like.

Links can be videos from YouTube, other Blog posts, whatever you can find on the internet that our attendees would find.
For example, Sam watches woodworking videos and one of those channels made a cosplay prop once so he submits that as curated content for our social media.

Blog Content
Blog articles should be 600-1500 words.
* Tutorials and How-Tos for Cosplay, Art, Prop Making, Gaming, or anything else relevant to our attendees.
* Reviews of stores, games, and other cons, relevant to our attendees (Must be positive! Can include some areas for improvement, but overall we need to be positive and not bash things or events)
* Anything relevant to our attendees.

The Spiel
As part of tabling we use a basic spiel to quickly tell people about SNAFU Con. It consists of four parts:

# Who -- SNAFU Con, then tell them what SNAFU stands for.
# What -- a three day convention. Depending on the audience you can say "anime convention"
# Where -- Reno-Sparks, Nevada, because people don't know what Sparks is, but saying just Reno can get you in an argument. Talk about the venue instead if you're near enough to Sparks that everyone knows where the Nugget is.
# When -- the next con's date.

<blockquote>Would you like a FREE button?

The buttons are free; the fliers are also free if you can believe that...

We are SNAFU Con: Sierra Nevada Anime Fans Unite. We're a three-day anime convention in the Reno/Sparks area of Nevada, October six through eight.

We run 55 hours of continuous programming, which means we don't sleep and you don't have to. But if you are partial to sleeping we're in a hotel-casino, so you can run right up to your hotel room and right back down to the Con floor without ever leaving the building.

Our room rates are quite reasonable this year at around sixty-five dollars a night, and our badge price is currently thirty-five dollars, increasing to forty in September.
<blockquote>Volunteers are everywhere running everything behind the scenes! In the hallways, in tabletop, chilling by the gaming room, at reg, on the stage, running behind random other volunteers and staff... etc.... SNAFU Con volunteers are the best!</blockquote>

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Director (Department Head) (18+)
Responsibilities include: Establishing routines and procedures for volunteers,
recruitment of coheads and JR. Director, responding to volunteer inquiries and
applications before and during con, attending meetings, any jobs listed under
JR. director or co-heads as needed, overseeing conflict resolution between
volunteer staff and volunteers or con attendees, and duties as discussed
between director and conheads. This is a Staff position therefore requiring a 3
meeting attendance minimum and pre con approval.

JR. Director (High Staff)/Co-heads (General Staff) (18+)
The JR. director and Coheads act as volunteer management in the Director's
absence. Other responsibilities include scheduling volunteer shifts,
maintaining knowledge of volunteer areas and needs as they fluctuate throughout
con, conflict resolution and reporting for events as they occur between
attendees and volunteers or among volunteers, assisting with lost and found,
and any other duties listed under general staff duties. These are Staff
positions therefore requiring a 3 meeting attendance minimum and pre-con
approval.

General Volunteers (14+)
Volunteers are core to keeping SNAFU Con running. Volunteers perform a
variety of duties and are able to receive a refund on their badge price
according to the type of badge and number of hours volunteered. Weekend passes
may receive a full refund for a minimum of 12 volunteer hours over the course
of the weekend. Day badges may be fully refunded for a minimum of 4 volunteer
hours. Partial refunds are available according to the time completed (Ex: 2
hours on a day pass = 50% refund). Group badges cannot be refunded but hours
can be applied towards a free or discounted badge for next year. Volunteers may
be assigned to the following areas/duties:

Registration: Helping with tasks such as but not limited to registering new
badges, making badges, line management, and general clerical duties.

Volunteer desk: Informing con attendees about volunteering, giving general
information, helping volunteers fill out their forms, lost and found, checking
in with volunteers in need of breaks and reassignments, sending volunteers to
needed places, and general record keeping.

Badge check: Sitting/standing/light-moderate dancing by major entryways to
make sure that people who come in are in possession of the right badge/ID.
Events with minimum ages must be guarded by a volunteer or staff of that
minimum age. (Ex: an 18+ panel must be guarded by an 18+ volunteer or staff).

Rover: Provides directions for lost attendees, peace bonding, rave
monitoring (16+), general information giving, badge check duties, line
management, monitoring con areas.

Runner/Lackey: SNAFU Con has a lot of different events going on throughout
the weekend and a lot of space to cover. Lackeys and runners essentially fill
in for all the weird menial tasks that pop up as con goes on such as temporary
reliefs for other volunteers, paper organizing, drink/food delivery, and
anything to help fellow volunteers and staff stay sane. Any con related duties
not mentioned above as assigned by a high staff fall under this category.

Set Up/Tear down: Assist with Day 0 set up and Sunday Tear down.

SPECIALIZED/DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS (14+)
Any department may recruit its own team of volunteers to assist with their own
functions not to be used as general volunteers. Specialized volunteers MUST
fill out a volunteer contract, minor consent form (as applies), and pick up a
time sheet from volunteer desk before any duties are commenced. Hours
must be signed out by high staff in that department. Volunteers will not sign
off any hours done outside of the general volunteer area under any
circumstances. It is the sole responsibility of the department head and
specialized volunteers to make sure that time sheets are kept accurate and all
forms are filled out in a timely manner. Hours done under specialization and
in generalized volunteering may be combined for the purposes of reimbursement.
Any dedicated volunteers must be declared in writing by department heads to
the volunteer desk no later than 8pm on opening day.

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
Volunteer contracts
All volunteers must pay for admission and fill out a volunteer contract before
any duties are assigned. If the volunteer is between the ages of 14 &emdash; 17
a parent/guardian permission form must also be completed at that time.

Time sheets
Each volunteer will be given a time sheet to track their volunteer hours
throughout con. At the beginning of each shift, volunteers must sign in on the
clipboard located at the volunteer desk and mark the start and end time on
their time sheet. Once the shift is completed or if they are moved, they must
be signed off by a high staff.

Refunds
Refunds are issued in cash by Sunday at the Registration desk. Volunteers must
bring their time sheet as proof for hours completed. All hours must have been
previously signed out by a high staff to count towards refund. Partial refunds
are calculated and paid out in accordance to time volunteered. No more than a
100% refund will be issued under any circumstance.

Leaving post
When assigned to an area, the volunteer is responsible to remain in that area
until released by a replacement or staff member. Abandoning an assignment
prematurely forfeits time done during that assignment. Severe repeated offenses
may result in removal from volunteers and forfeit time accumulated.

Volunteer breaks
Volunteering staff try to regularly check in with all volunteers throughout
con. If a volunteer needs a break to get water, stretch, or use the restroom,
the volunteer is encouraged to speak to any nearby staff or fellow volunteer
for temporary relief. It is that volunteer's responsibility to make sure that
their area is covered before leaving. If the volunteer plans on being absent
for more than 8-10 minutes, the volunteer must be signed out

Sleeping
There is NO sleeping on shift. Volunteers caught sleeping during shift
forfeited time done under that shift. Volunteers are required to get adequate
sleep to be properly alert.

Touching
Safety is a primary concern. Under NO circumstances are volunteers to
uninvitingly touch or physically stand in the way of any other person at SNAFU
Con.

Illness or intoxication
Volunteers deemed by the staff members to be too sick or intoxicated to
continue will be signed out and relieved of duty until they have recovered.
Drinking alcohol during or right before shift is strictly prohibited.

VOLUNTEER COMMANDMENTS
1. THOU SHALT NOT VOLUNTEER WITHOUT FILLING OUT THE PAPERWORK FIRST.
All volunteers must pay for admission, sign a volunteer contract, and turn in a
completed parent/guardian consent form (if under 18) before any duties are
assigned.

2. THOU SHALT KEEP THINE HANDS TO THYSELF.
Under NO circumstances are any volunteers to physically push, touch, or block
the way of another attendee. If a situation arises that may be dangerous,
immediately inform Nugget security followed by reporting to SNAFU Con High
Staff. For cases of general unruliness from a con goer or if a con attendee is
breaking a rule of some sort, please inform Volunteer staff or a nearby staff
member.

3. THOU SHALT NOT VANISH INTO THIN AIR.
Apparition and teleportation is banned while volunteering. Please, please,
please do not leave an area unattended without letting us know. If you need to
be relieved for an emergency we will do our best to get you replaced as soon as
possible or rearrange to cover the area. Repeated incidents of leaving post
without signing out are grounds from dismissal from volunteers and forfeit any
refund.

4. THOU SHALT KEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE IN MIND.
A parent that is worried about their child may react out of fright and not
every person attending Snafu con is always considerate. However, as a volunteer
please do your best to treat others with respect and common courtesy. Violent,
aggressive, or purposely offensive comments/behavior towards a fellow staff,
volunteer, or attendee are grounds for immediate removal of volunteers with no
refund.

5. THOU SHALT NOT LOSE THINE OWN TIME SHEET.
accurate times in a sign out at the desk but if we are not able to verify your
So if I do 24 hours that means I get a 200% refund right!?

Not quite; Hours earned over a full refund will not be paid but may count
towards your badge for next year.

What is the maximum amount of hours I can volunteer?

72. Although we highly suggest that you make time for sleeping and eating. If
you are too sleepy to function you will not be allowed to volunteer!

Can I get any hours before con starts?

Yes! Day 0 we are always in need of extra hands to help set up. It does involve
some lifting so let us know if you need any accommodations. To schedule pre-con
hours please email us at volunteerssnafucon.com .

Can I pick where I go?

The earlier you sign up the more likely you will be able to choose your
placement. Most scheduling does not occur until 1 month before con. If you have
a particular place you would really like to be at let us know via email pre-con
or at the con and we will do our best to place you there!

Can I volunteer with my friends/siblings/partner?

Volunteering with fellow friends can be awesome but so can meeting all the
other fabulous people that help out each year! If you would like to be placed
close to someone please let us know when you sign up and we will do our best to
give you the same hours and try to place you close together. Just like
volunteering placements, this is not a guarantee but is more likely with
earlier sign ups and during busy times of day.

I want to be a staff member!!!! How do I sign up?

YAY!!! We are always looking for more victi...AWESOME PEOPLE to join our team!
To staff you must be a minimum of 18 years old by the 1st day of con and attend
a minimum of 3 meetings before con. Please email volunteerssnafucon.com for
more information on staffing volunteers or hrsnafucon.com to get information
Fear not! We DO issue partial refunds proportional to how much your badge cost
and how many hours you put in. For example if you paid $120 for your badge and
were only able to do 10 hours, you would get $100 back. If you only did 4, then
you would get $40 back.

<blockquote>Volunteers are everywhere running everything behind the scenes! In
the hallways, in tabletop, chilling by the gaming room, at reg, on the stage,
running behind random other volunteers and staff... etc.... SNAFU Con volunteers
are the best!</blockquote>

=== SPECIALIZED/DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS (14+) ==

We. Will. Not. Remember. Every. Single. One. Of. Your. Shifts. There are too
many volunteers each year at con and it is the volunteer's sole responsibility
This is a list of local businesses, broken down by city, that have helped us in some way during the 2015 Con season -- usually by hosting our flyers for people to take home. If what they have done for is is not noted down, assume it is because they're hosting flyers. If you're putting a business down that has done something ELSE for us, please note what they've done next to the business name.
NOTE: there are some nonprofits on here as well, but they're being included as having been friendly to our con for future reference
SNAFU Con Annual Themes
*2010 We have a con!
*2011 Cyberpunk
*2012 IN SPACE!
*2013 Apocalypse / Post Apocalypse
*2014 Magic
*2015 Mystery

Theme Choosing
Themes are chosen at the last meeting of the year before the con. This way we can announce the theme for the following year during closing ceremonies.

All staff may suggest themes for the following year and the suggestions are voted on by the staff present at the meeting. Generally, the staff may vote on as many themes as they want (with a limit of once per theme) until the theme choice is narrowed down to just a few, and then everyone has to vote on their final choice.

Themes are disqualified if the convention has ever used it, or if a nearby convention has used it in the last 10 years or will be using it in an upcoming year (to our knowledge). Additionally, since there is a local annual SteamPunk event, Steampunk is also disqualified as an option.

Possible Future Themes
*Horror
*Math
*Monsters
*Suits
*Under the Sea
Please feel free to add your suggestions to this list and we can use it as a jumping off point for next year's voting choices.

Known Disqualified Themes
*80's (BLFC 2014)
*Celebration (Fanime)
*Dystopia (BLFC 2015)
*Gothic Lolita (Fanime)
*Roaring 20's (BLFC 2013)
*Sports (Fanime)
*Steampunk (Local annual event)
Additionally, any theme we have had is disqualified.

Departmental Impact
The theme primarily affects the Design team.

Video programming is encouraged to work within theme as much as possible but is not limited by theme.

Cosplay may have theme related awards in the masquerade.

All departments and staff are encouraged to do something theme related.
