Peace Bonding is a standard practice at most conventions. The attendee needs to come to a Peace Bonding station and sign a contract basically indicating they won't be stupid with their prop. To indicate that a prop has been Peace Bonded, a custom zip tie (or other indicator) is affixed to the prop.

Peace Bonding is a responsibility of the Rovers department.

Steps (paper form)

  1. Have person fill out form
  2. Verify name is real name
  3. Verify badge number
  4. Verify props
  5. Correct form as needed
  6. Make person sign form (if empty)
  7. WRITE your name on form (signing optional but we want to know who verified the form)

There will be different but similar steps when we go paperless which should be 2015.

Keep in Mind

  • Do not have (or let) member fill out multiple forms for items. List all props at one time. If they want to come back later they can fill out a separate form but their items may still be grouped together post-con
  • If you sign the form, make sure you put either your name, initials, or badge number next to your signature as the staffer verifying the form
  • ONLY ONE person per form. One person needs to take responsibility for the item. If two people really need to peace bond one item they must fill out separate forms.

Improvised Weapons

The Improvised Weapon is an achievement for peacebonding unique and unusual items. Once an item has made this list, it likely will not qualify again for the achievement. We like to see new and creative items because it amuses us. This achievement was added to the list because llama peacebonded 2 bananas in 2014. The achievement icon is thus a peacebonded banana.

To receive the achievement, one must peacebond (complete with signed form!) a unique or unusual item. After the convention when the peacebonding is typed up, the interesting items are flagged. After the system goes paperless, the items will be reviewed after con for achievement qualification.

Taken Items

  • A Pink Fluffy Backpack (2013)
  • Apple (2014 - part of a large list of food items)
  • Arm (2013)
  • Banana (2014 - part of a large list of food items)
  • Bubble Gum Cigar - Smoking kills, after all (2014)
  • Cheez-it (2014 - part of a large list of food items)
  • Con badge (2015)
  • Dominoes Pizza Box (2015)
  • Deadliest paint brush (2015)
  • Giant Inflatable Donut (2014)
  • Hula Hoop! :D (2013)
  • Keychain w/ lots of keys (2014)
  • Magma (2015)
  • My hands for a fist full of awesome (2014)
  • My waist line bro! (2015)
  • Orange (2014 - part of a large list of food items)
  • Organic 100% treetop apple juice given as a proposal gift (2014 - part of a large list of food items)
  • Question mark wrench (2015)
  • Right hand with yellow fingernail polish; Left hand with yellow fingernail polish (2014)
  • Sharpened Comb (2014)
  • Tie (2015)
  • Two (2) Bananas (2013)
  • Wheelchair (2015)
  • Yarn with sunglasses (2015)

Please note we there are some duplicates, or very similar items. Most often these were in the same year and since we don’t know who got the idea first, we gave it to them out of kindness or pity – especially if the items were written out uniquely. Many people doing what would otherwise be a unique/unusual item will disqualify it because it is obviously not that unique or unusual if there are a bunch of people peacebonding it. Hands, for example, were done multiple times in 2014, but only the most unique entries made the list.

Disqualified Items

  • Any item normally peace bonded such as a prop gun or prop sword
  • Deadpool - too many people (like 4) tried to peace bond Deadpool in 2014.
  • Hands - SO many people tried to peace bond their hands in 2014 - we gave it to a few unique reasons, but in general hands are disqualified.
  • Food items a zip tie won't actually stay around (too big/small/awkward)
  • An action. Only items can be peace bonded. (In 2014 a peace bond sheet read "Carefully stalking the marketplace searching for pen thieves" in absolutely atrocious handwriting.)
  • Non-items. ("Gold/black makes noise 3 red dots" . . . okay but what is it? (It may actually have been a light saber but who knows))
  • Illegible Items. If we can't read it then it won't count for much. This should be going away once we go paperless, but if your spelling is terrible so that we don't know what it is then it's still disqualified.
