Staff Ranks

There are only two con-wide ranks: volunteer and chair. All other ranks are departmental. A staff member can be general staff in tech, high staff in main stage, and a department head in photography and mean nothing to anyone outside of those departments.

Volunteer

All staff volunteer their time but Volunteers are the lowest level of staff members and are not considered “staff” for consideration of any staff perks. Volunteers must pay to attend the convention but will be reimbursed after completing and logging only 12 hours of assisting the convention. Volunteers are assigned to certain departments depending on need.

Technical Volunteer

This designation is no longer used and was for two specific individuals in our first couple of years. A technical volunteer is an individual who would otherwise be a staff member but is too young to qualify (under 18). This designation requires not only chair approval but admin intervention to assign now and is no longer given.

General Staff

Most staff members are general staff in a department.

High Staff

These people are considered higher in rank in a department than general staff, but are not running a department. This rank is usually given to assistants with (or those expected to have) a lot of responsibilities within that department.

Second Head

These are the people who assist running a particular department. Often are almost equal rank as the head and can step in when the head is missing or asleep.

Department Head

These are the people who run a particular department.

Chair

These are the people who oversee all or a specific subsection of the department heads.
