Press, as a sub-department of Marketing, primarily exists to interact with members of the media (print, radio, television, and online). The media exists to inform the public, but it can also be considered a lucrative form of free advertising for the Con. Press works throughout the year, and must be willing to network with members of the press both during Con and outside of Con.
Requirements
- Must be willing to work late or early, depending on need.
- Must have a friendly demeanor and be willing to interact with members of the public and press.
- Must know AP Style or be willing to learn.
- Must know how to write a press release, or be willing to learn.
- Must be able to dress and act professionally when acting on behalf of the Con.
Responsibilities
- Send out regular press releases
- Interact with members of the press
- Promote in-con and out-of-con events, such as cosplay meetups and on-site events
- Create and put together press kits
- Send out pre-con press releases no later than two weeks prior to con to encourage members of the press to attend or promote the Con
- Interact with other departments to spotlight their out-of-con efforts as promotion
- Secure TV and radio spots, interviews, and other pre-con media concerns
