Volunteers vs. Staff

In general the “staff” label not given to members with a rank of “volunteer,” however all volunteers are staff in that they are staffing the convention for a shorter duration of time albeit with fewer responsibilities than general staff. Volunteers are not considered to be staff for consideration of staff perks. To avoid confusion, volunteers are never referred to as “staff” – the label is reserved for members rank general and higher.

All staff are volunteers in that they volunteer their time (no one is paid) but are rarely referred to as “volunteers” for the reason listed above.
