The City of Reno requires that all sellers have a Reno Business License. If a merchant does not have a city license we will provide one for a small fee. The license fee is imposed by the city. The convention does not set the amount and we keep no part of it. The provided license is only valid at the convention and for the duration of the convention.
The license requirement also applies to people or businesses advertising themselves, e.g. handing out business cards or fliers. The city considers such actions to be "conducting business". This is a city policy which we have not seen elsewhere. The convention has no control over this policy.
Even if a seller has a State of Nevada business license they will still need a City of Reno business license. Sellers who have a state sales tax ID number will enter that number on the sales tax return at the end of con rather than paying us the sales tax.
