The Tech Department is responsible for handling all of the audio, video, and lighting needs at SNAFU Con.

What We Do

Pre-Convention Setup

  • Working with logistics to verify tech bins have the correct equipment in them and that inventory sheets are accurate
  • Transporting, setting up, and testing all AV equipment for the convention
  • Installing speakers, projectors, screens, microphones, mixers, lighting fixtures, cabling etc. in all convention spaces including Main Stage, Panel Rooms, Video Rooms, Workshops, Second Stage, Rave, and more
  • Creating setup diagrams and documentation for each space
  • Training staff and volunteers on proper equipment operation

Support During Convention

  • Operating live audio at Main Stage events like Masquerade, concerts, charity auction, etc.
  • Monitoring equipment and quickly troubleshooting any technical issues
  • Resetting and adjusting equipment between panels and events
  • Providing AV support for guests and attendees as needed
  • Overseeing equipment checkout for staff use

Post-Convention

  • Tearing down all AV equipment and returning any possible rentals
  • Maintain a working end of con inventory of tech
  • Inspecting gear for damage and organizing inventory
  • Making budget requests for new equipment

Joining Tech

The Tech Department strives to provide the best possible audio, video and lighting experience at SNAFU Con. We are always looking for new staff members interested in learning about AV equipment and live events. Experience is not required, just a willingness to learn and pitch in.

Equipment

Tech provides most of it's own equipment either because SCIENCE owns it or because a staffer does.

Room Responsibilities

Tech is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and tearing down all of the tech in the panel rooms. We've done our best to label and gather equipment needed for each room to make it easier for Tech to work with Logistics to get the correct gear to the correct room at load-in.
