The Tech Department is responsible for handling all of the audio, video, and lighting needs at SNAFU Con.

What We Do

Pre-Convention Setup

  • Verify inventory and identify whether or not any replacement or additional equipment is needed.
  • Update documentation to include any new equipment that has been added since the previous year
  • Communicate with programming to identify any new equipment that may need to be added
  • Verify load in and load out timing and procedure with Logistics
  • Assist with identifying power drop needs across the Convention space
  • Coordinate with main stage staff regarding time management needs for panels and events on main stage
  • Coordinate with Rave staff regarding acquisition, setup, and non-rave usage of second stage equipment
  • Identify Panels that need technical assistance and create a schedule to be able to assist where requested
  • Setup and adjust AV equipment in all panel and stage spaces, as well as video in registration on Day 0


Support During Convention

  • Check and, if needed, reset tech in rooms each morning
  • Track schedule for Panels and Stages in order to deploy staff to check on Guests and Panels that request assistance with tech
  • Verify, organize, and playback audio files for cosplay contest, talent show, and other main stage or second stage programming where required
  • Monitor and maintain proper audio levels during special events on Main Stage or Second Stage
  • Assist main stage staff with video switching where necessary
  • Assist rave staff with setup, soundcheck, and distribution of glow items


Post-Convention

  • Inventory and organize equipment as it is being put away at the end of con
  • Document any damaged or missing equipment
  • Research any requested equipment and determine cost-benefit of said items, document items so they can be requested the next year


Joining Tech

The Tech Department strives to provide the best possible audio, video and lighting experience at SNAFU Con. We are always looking for new staff members interested in learning about AV equipment and live events. Experience is not required, just a willingness to learn and pitch in.

Equipment

Tech provides most of it's own equipment either because SCIENCE owns it or because a staffer does.

Room Responsibilities

Tech is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and tearing down all of the tech in the panel rooms. We've done our best to label and gather equipment needed for each room to make it easier for Tech to work with Logistics to get the correct gear to the correct room at load-in.
